Urgent requests

If you or your child need to see a doctor urgently, and no appointments are available, please inform reception and they will either get a nurse to speak to you or book you in with a nurse. The nurses are in close contact with the doctors and will confer with them as required.

A normal consult fee will apply if the GP sees you after the nurse assessment. If you are assessed by the nurse and given an appointment for the following day a usual nurse charge will apply. This service is designed for non-routine medical problems that cannot wait.

If you are unsure if you need to be seen urgently HEALTHLINE is a free 24 hour, health advice service where you can speak to a registered nurse. Ph. 0800 611 116. This service advises you on when and where you are best to access medical care, depending on your symptoms.

Notification of test results

Your Doctor will endeavour to contact you when he/she receives your results. This may be by letter, text, patient portal, or phone-call. The waiting time for results depends on the type of test taken. When ordering tests we will give you an indication of when the results can be expected. This is usually about a week. Please call the practice if you have not been contacted within the timeframe given to you.

Need an interpreter?

All our patients have the right to effective communication. This includes the right to engage with an interpreter if needed, and if it can be practically arranged. We have access to a free telephone interpreting service. For our hearing impaired patients we may be able to access an in-person interpreter.

To make sure we have the correct interpreter we need to book this service in advance. When you make your appointment please let our receptionist know that you, or someone you know, needs an interpreter.

Missed your appointment?

To help us manage our time we ask that you arrive a few minutes before the start time of your appointment.  If you arrive late we will need to ask the doctor or nurse if they can still see you.  Please note that your appointment may be shortened as a result of the later start time.  If they cannot see you we will need to reschedule your appointment.

If you cannot make your appointment at all we appreciate at least two hours’ notice to cancel it – this enables us to offer the appointment to another patient.  If you do not arrive for your appointment without letting us know we may charge you a missed appointment fee.

Updating your information

To allow us to contact you when we need to, we appreciate you keeping your contact information up-to-date.  If you have moved, changed telephone numbers or email addresses please let us know.  You can email newlands@newlandsmedical.co.nz or phone us on 04 478-9858.
